Colchester County boasts one of the province's largest communities, with a regional population of more than 35,000 and approximately 12,500 residents in the town of Truro. Colchester County is made up of many long-established communities including Truro, Bible Hill, Valley, Hilden, Brookfield, Stewiacke, Debert, Tatamagouche, Great Village, and Five Islands. Colchester County offers numerous first class educational opportunities from elementary to post-secondary institutions.

Since its incorporation as a Town in 1875, Truro has continued to grow and prosper through the development of a commercial, industrial and social infrastructure that benefits the area and its inhabitants. Truro's central location makes it a popular destination, and this full-service town provides a visitor information centre, shopping areas, museums, and a wide variety of recreational opportunities. 

Truro deemed most cost-competitive by KPMG

Truro rules when it comes to being the most cost-competitive location for business in Canada. The town took the top spot on KPMG's Competitive Alternatives 2012 study released March 22. The KPMG study examines 26 key business cost elements, including labout, taxes, real estate and utilities, in 31 towns and cities in Canada, comparing more than 100 locations in 14 countries around the world. Atlantic Canadian locations dominated the top five (note- a cost index less than 100 indicates lower costs than the U.S.): Truro, NS - 91.9; Sydney, NS - 92.0; Moncton, NB - 92.3; Fredericton, NB and Saint John, NB - 92.5; Halifax, NS - 92.7. Taking home the number one spot is a real honour for Truro, says Ron Smith, executive director for the Colchester Regional Development Agency. "It gives us the momentum we need to move forward with increased business attraction at a time when the entire province is poised for five years of improved growth.
